My Favorite Egg for Fall Salmon

With the summer winding down and Smallmouth  moving into the fall feeding patterns the change of the season is in the air.The water levels are prime for the Salmon migration. reports are already coming in of fish staging around some rivers. With a change to the west this week in the wind and a good amount of rain the pump is getting primed for action. Here is my favorite egg for the fall time here in Wisconsin. I like to fish it with a fluorocarbon leader and a small split shot in the deep holes and slots early in the run.It should be a great season I have heard of some bigger than normal fish being boated out on the lake this summer.

Guided salmon trips are only 225.00 for a half day 1-2 people

So that is only a little over a 100.00 each and that will set you up for a more successful season

20 day fish is not uncommon

20" Smallmouth

It was great to see my freind Jarred Winkel land a 20" smallmouth last night. Fishing has been great this summer, but with the cool weather lately it has slowed a bit. With that been said you never know when the next cast you will land a great fish.

Here's to a Great Fishermen

Some days on the water are good, some great, and then some are golden yesterday  was one of such golden days. I had the pleasure of hosting long time fly angler author and local fishing legend Don Larmouth. Don has been plagued with Parkinson disease which has slowed his body down, but to my pleasure not his mind or his drive to continue a long career of fly fishing. He can still cast 50 feet with little effort and place the fly within inches of the bank.then when he has a fish on he's all business. I mostly enjoyed the many story of a man that shares the same passion for the water as I. Don has fished with some of fly fishing greatest guides in the world so when he addressed me as Captain at the end of our trip and told me this was a "red letter day for him" I toke that as a great compliment.

Here's a You Tube link to one of many fish from that day.
