The Good,The Bad and The Ugly

The Good news is we are getting some rain as I type this. We have been without rain for awhile now and most of the rivers need some water to bring a fresh batch of fish in. The King Salmon run has already peaked and now we are on the down hill slide. We may get one more push of fresh fish next week then it will wind down to nothing by the end of the month.A few Coho and Steelhead are around as well.

The Bad news is there are dead stinky fish floating all around the river. The trash that people leave is unbelievable as well as the lack of sportsmanship.I know there are some that depend on those fish for meals, but most don't.

The Ugly, I had a run in with one of the not so sportsman today. I hooked a nice female this morning and as she made her run up river she knew right where the tree in the water was. I gave her some slack hoping she would turn back towards me. But as she got cozy under the tree I knew there would be no getting her out without tearing up my line so I straighting out the line and broke her off.My net guy walked over and confirmed she was hooked in the corner of the mouth  and was laying there recovering. Then out of no where a older guy with the silver spider (treble hook) walk over to her lying there and reached over the tree and hooked her under the belly and then put her on his stringer. I told him if he did leave the river I call the DNR warden.

Although I have seen many violations on the river, I see allot of guys doing it right. I fish with a a group of great sportsman that are very polite, good fisherman and helpfully to one anther. There will always be the ugly but I just choose to fish with the good.
